And I've Got a Robot!

I did this little guy for a local contest for a deli. I was late on my entry so I don't know if it will be considered or not. If not I'll need to come up with a name for the little robot. He's got and upbeat attitude to boot. Would love to hear some comments on the the render.

SketchCrawl

SketchCrawl…is Saturday, April 16, and this time, we’ll head to 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center (http://www.outdooralabama.com/outdoor-adventures/5rivers), thanks to the hospitality of Manager Hank Burch and Assistant Manager Shonda Borden.

And we won’t be the only ones out there that day. As Shonda notes, “We do have a lot going on that day, but it may be to the benefit of the artists to have a lot of subjects to choose from – students studying insects, newlyweds, adults learning about ponds, a guided boy scout tour, plus all of our daily activities such as boat tours, canoe/kayak rentals, exhibits, and beautiful scenery. “

We’ll gather at 9 (I’ll let you know exactly where shortly before the event), then meet again at 3 to share the results.

Let me know if you plan to join us - and invite anyone you think would be interested!

Mobile SketchCrawl

Saturday, July 31
10 AM – 2 PM
Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center (65 Government St.).

Thirty exotic reptiles from 20 different countries will serve as live models for the next Mobile SketchCrawl, set for Saturday, July 31, and hosted by the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center (65 Government St.).

Artists, amateur and professional, are invited to participate in Mobile’s third drawing marathon, part of an international event that encourages participants to spend a day recording what they see, then post their drawings online. On July 31, artists aged 17 and older may register between 10 AM and 2 PM for free admission to the Exploreum’s "Reptile Planet" and varied permanent exhibitions. Accompanying family members will receive discounted rates. Sketchers will gather again at 3 to socialize, share results, and snap a group photo.

Enrico Casarosa, a storyboard artist for Pixar, introduced the SketchCrawl concept several years ago in San Francisco, and it quickly spread across the planet. The July 31 Crawl will be the 28th worldwide event.

A SketchCrawl is a little like a pub crawl - but with sketchbooks. Participants meet at an appointed spot early in the morning and then scatter throughout the neighborhood for a day-long drawing marathon. The goal is a sketch an hour (of anything -- buildings, street scenes, interesting objects, people, whatever is around), but some people draw more, some less. Some stick to pencil; others use field watercolors, markers, whatever they prefer. The idea is to have fun and draw, draw, draw. At the end of the day, everyone meets again to look at each other’s work and to upload drawings to the event’s website, which offers a peek into the sketchbooks of people in Paris, Bangkok, Rome, Sydney, and other cities. Mobile has its own site, as well.

Mobile’s SketchCrawls, begun last October at the suggestion of artist Val Webb, have been coordinated by Mobile Arts Council and have taken place in downtown Mobile, at the Mobile Museum of Art, and at Oakleigh.

SketchCrawl 2 Review

I would say that the sketchcrawl was pretty successfull, Charlie Smoke from the Mobile Arts Council said that they had about 39 people register/attended. Considering the other events (Chili Cook-Off & Gumbo Cook-Off) that were going on that saturday, and the glooming start to the day. I figured it was a good number. Maybe they will consider having it at one those events in the future. I want to say thanks to all the people that make this happen I really enjoyed it.

SketchCrawl at Mobile Museum of Art on Feb. 27

Sharpen your pencils, SketchCrawlers, and get ready to enjoy a scenic and inspiring day of drawing at Mobile Museum of Art. Mobile will take its place among more than 80 cities participating in a Worldwide SketchCrawl on Saturday, Feb. 27. We'll gather at MMA around 10am, draw in and around the museum and surrounding park until 3pm, then reconvene in the Museum's education wing for refreshments. During this post-sketching social hour, volunteers will scan and upload sketches to the international SketchCrawl website for anyone who wishes to share the day's drawings with sketchers in other corners of the globe.

Artists of all ages and skill levels are welcome. When you check in at the SketchCrawl desk (inside the education wing) you'll receive free admission to the museum for the day. Inside the exhibit galleries, you are free to sketch with pencil or pens -- but save your watercolors for outside subjects.

See you there!

Participate in Mobile SketchCrawl 2

I'm really glad to see Mobile Arts Council doing this again. I had fun doing it last time but did not have enough time to fully participate. The location is at the Mobile Art Museum. For more information go to the Mobile SketchCrawl website. Please show support for these types of events, so they will keep it doing them. It does not cost except anything and you get free admission for the Museum.

Join sketchers all over the world on Saturday, February 27, as we record what we see in our communities, then share our drawings on the internet. For our second local Crawl (the 26th international Crawl), we're moving from downtown to West Mobile, gathering at the Mobile Museum of Art (4850 Museum Dr.) at 10 AM, sketching in and around it until 3 PM, then coming together again to sip coffee and share the results. We'll upload the drawings for others to see - and in March, exhibit a selection at Mobile Arts Council.

Artists of all ages and all skill levels are invited to participate, and you are welcome to join us at any time before 2 PM, as your schedule permits. Just check in at our desk in the Education Wing - and receive free admission to the Museum. We will be permitted to sketch with pencil or pen (not paints) in the Museum galleries. If you do draw there, please be careful and be mindful of patrons viewing the exhibitions.

Mobile SketchCrawl

What happens at Mobile SketchCrawl?
It's our very own downtown drawing marathon. You'll see your city in a whole new way! Mobile's very first SketchCrawl will be Saturday, October 17, from 9am until 3pm. Sign in at Mobile Arts Council, then start drawing. Wander through the Cathedral Square Market with your sketchbook. Sketch your way along Dauphin Street. Draw your breakfast. Draw your friends. Draw whatever looks interesting to you. Just draw! Then bring your sketches back to MAC, where volunteers will upload them to the SketchCrawl forum.

I pull this from the Mobile Sketch Crawl site so for more info please go to MobileSketchCrawl. It seems that it would be a good time and probably good weather for it this weekend.

New Character: Toemogee

Sorry for the flash glare. This is another character that I came up with last year. I haven't done much with his coloring yet. I am thinking purple tones. Toemogee is Salad's buddy they like to hang out and skip rocks on the island.
